COVID19 Isolation Gowns/Masks -The Patchwork Bear

Hi everyone, my name is Jennifer Cura and I'm the founder and designer at The Patchwork Bear. At The Patchwork Bear, we turn customer's favorite clothes into keepsakes like memory bears and quilts. Now we have been asked to do something different- fill an URGENT AND IMMEDIATE NEED for isolation gowns AND face masks.

I was asked by a friend and ER doctor to sew an isolation gown since they are low on supply or completely out. Together, we came up with a pattern for a fabric gown that can be sterilized and reused. The isolation gown is different from a regular hospital gown. It has long sleeves with ribbed cuffs for protection and ties at the neck and back. This pattern has been approved and we are ready to start production. The cost to make the gowns is significantly higher than the paper disposable gowns, but due to a nationwide lack of supply of disposable gowns, these fabric ones are the next best option.

Through my wholesale suppliers and local businesses, I have been able to find appropriate fabric in bulk and help sewing these gowns in large quantities. Now all we need is help raising funds for the materials and labor costs to get this done!

I’m asking you to consider donating today in response to an immediate and serious need for these masks and gowns that can help keep our healthcare workers safe to serve our communities.

For full transparency, all funding will go through my business, The Patchwork Bear. In addition, I will post updates of our progress here and on The Patchwork Bear Facebook and Instagram pages so you can follow along. We will use the funds to finance raw material purchases and to secure the manufacturing company we are contracting to help us cut/sew. We will also use funds to make facemasks for healthcare, military and essential workers.
If we are fortunate enough to have remaining funds, any excess will be donated to our local non-profit, Send Hunger Packing, to help reduce food insecurity in the community (SHUPPrinceton.org).

Your donation is greatly appreciated in this community-wide effort to support those at the front lines of coronavirus. Together, we can get through this by supporting each other through kindness, compassion, and empathy.

With love and gratitude,
Jennifer Cura

UPDATE 4/23/2020: The fundraising goal has been increased to continue to finance making masks and gowns. The costs to have these gowns made are significant- and so is the need. In addition, we have been receiving hundreds of requests for face masks for essential workers and still need your help. Thank you so much:)
