Masha's recovery

Hi, my name is Katia Artyushenko. I created this GoFundMe page to raise funds for the medical treatment for my cousin, Maria (Masha) Zvenova. She is 18 years old and just started her first year of college. She went to the same university as me - Tихоокеанский государственный университет (Pacific State University). Masha and two of her classmates were driving from Vladivostok when their driver made an illegal U-turn from the first lane resulting in a side collision. https://news.ussurbator.ru/news/voditelyu-skaya-vinovniku-smertelnogo-dtp-pod-ussuriyskom-ispolnilos-vsego-18-let.

The accident led to immediate death of the back-seat passenger. Masha, the front seat passenger, went into a coma. The 18-year-old driver survived the crash and is under a police investigation. Police disclosed that the driver had less than a month driving experience.

After 10 days  in coma, Masha woke up. As of now, she isn’t speaking or moving. She has closed head trauma, broken hips, severe lung and abdominal damage.

The prognoses that Masha will live  is strong as she has been responding to treatments. She breathes through tracheostomy tube and feeds on special protein blend through a feeding tube. When she is fully able to swallow, she will be receiving a liquid diet.

It is uncertain whether she is semi-paralyzed or not. She will have to get another CT of brain, jaw joints and chest. An MRI would be better; however, there are two “buts”: first, the MRI scanner is only available in another hospital, 4 kilometers away; second, because of the metal construction in her hips, performing MRI is not possible at this moment. A CT doesn't provide a whole picture of the condition of the brain, and doctor thinks it’s possible cerebral ischemia is present because Masha can't speak and can't move her right hand.

The Head of Intensive Care has recommended her upcoming transfer to the Traumatology unit. In a few weeks she will be starting a rehabilitation period and will need further treatment in specialized medical center. The doctors recommend transferring Masha to the best one located in Harbin City, in China.

I’m raising money to help to cover transportation expense and initial treatments.

I truly believe that Masha has a strong chance to survive with proper care, and I’m hoping for the best possible results.
