Fundraising For The Marzec-Hosford Family

As many of you are aware, 15-year old Mackenzie Marzec-Hosford suffered a cardiac arrest recently and is in critical condition at SickKids hospital in Toronto with a significant brain injury.
Rob, and his daughters, Mackenzie and Kate, all suffer from a heart condition called Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This disease puts individuals at a heightened risk of sudden cardiac death.
Rob had a stroke and two cardiac arrests before undergoing a heart transplant in April 2019.
Rob has had multiple heart events, and a defibrillator (internal and external) saved his life each time. The heart transplant means Rob no longer has HCM, and will have the chance to fight his way back to a healthy life over time.
Kate, 13, is a hero, having administered CPR on Mackenzie immediately after her cardiac arrest.
However, this is not the first time Kate has been heroic as she and Mackenzie saved Rob’s life after his last cardiac arrest in January 2019.
As family friends, we are doing everything we can to support Samantha, Rob, Kate and Mackenzie through this challenging time.
Part of that support will be to raise money for them.
As a first step, we have purchased a defibrillator for the family in case it’s required in the future.
Families and friends can help cover the costs (approximately $1900) of the defibrillator by contributing to this GoFundMe campaign.
In addition to the defibrillator, the Marzec-Hosford family may require longer-term financial support as their focus for the foreseeable future will be on their mental and physical health.
It is also the family’s intentions that a portion of the proceeds raised will be used in some way to honour Mackenzie and to help battle HCM. The family also wishes to raise awareness about heart disease and organ donation.
