On August 18th, Mary was brought to the ICU due to severe Covid complications. Mary is a fighter, battling both cancer and Rheumatoid Arthritis in her lifetime. Despite her health struggles, she has remained steadfast in the Lord, constantly trusting him and keeping the Lord as her focus. The Covid battle has been a difficult one. At the time of this writing, the doctors have given Mary a 50/50 chance of survival, but, JESUS. We are believing for Mary’s complete healing and recovery. She has already been labeled a “miraculous” case by the doctors after surviving a very scary first few weeks in ICU. She was put on a ventilator, but the doctors decided a Trach was a better option because our feisty fighter can’t sit still. She is wanting to move and get better, and the Trach offers flexibility and mobility that the ventilator doesn’t. It is a miracle she has made it this far, but our journey to healing is going to be a long one. She isn’t out of the woods yet, and we are constantly praying and believing that every day is a step toward full-recovery.
Many have reached out to ask how to help Steve & Mary during this time. So many have already blessed the Roberts so much, and it has made all the difference as the family prays, processes, and grieves. With medical emergencies, many financial expenses come up, some covered by insurance, others not. We wanted to create this page as a way for people to be updated, know how to pray, and have a centralized place to give if wanted.
If you’re wondering how you can help, Sarah recently wrote a post I wanted to share here:
“I hate sharing details this way and even writing this, but it is the easiest format and I’m struggling to keep up with messages. My dad has a lot on him. He has carried a lot of this by himself over the years, so it’s tricky for him to know what to let go of or invite others to come do alongside of him. Between his brain injury and her medical stuff, their house needs some love and there’s a lot to keep up within his current daily life. It has been so encouraging to him when we’ve been able to say that this tank of gas is on “…. ,” your breakfast is from “….,” or “……” is doing that for you. I won’t lie- he freaking loves it. It puts a smile on his face and relaxes his shoulders a bit. The flexibility and support from so many of you has helped ease the daily nuances of balancing all that this journey entails and helping to prepare for what is ahead. We have learned that we do better accepting help when specific choices and options are offered, and especially when we don’t have to decide at all .
We have two lenses that we look through:
1. What can help my dad be less tired so he can be more present for my mom?
2. What is needed to support Mary once she gets home?”
Any donation is greatly appreciated and will go to help the Roberts family directly. If you are wanting to help in any other ways, we’d love a list of people who can run to Costco or the store for him (aka they call when they are on their way and see what he needs and check in on him- he’s awful at reaching out) Help with the house is also needed to support Mary once she gets home. If you’d like to help with this, you can fill out this form: https://forms.gle/s6ZeztkEguK7Pnem8
We also want to invite you into something special Mary started last week, check out Sarah’s post to read all about it: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTbjVVlLavr/
