After navigating numerous doctor's appointments, procedures, and biopsies from the beginning of the year, Mary received a devastating diagnosis that changed her life. By early June, Mary was diagnosed with a rare, HPV-independent cervical cancer called Gastric Adenocarcinoma. She began her treatment on July 29th, 2025 under a skilled medical team in Los Angeles. She has since been receiving weekly chemotherapy, which will be followed by a long course of combined chemo-radiation for months ahead – though the timeline/treatment may change depending on how her body responds.

Despite this daunting journey, Mary’s intentionality and wholeheartedness for people is still felt deeply. She has been navigating each step with courage and resilience while leaning on her loved ones. Still, this new reality has created an overwhelming burden as she has since been required to pause work. Mary has touched so many with her creativity and care, yet as a freelance artist she does not have access to paid time off or disability benefits. As her community, we are now rallying together to help alleviate financial strain so she can focus all her energy on beating cancer.

Our fundraising goal is 85k, which is comprehensive of Mary’s full rehabilitative journey:

*Ongoing and upcoming medical bills (copays, uncovered bills, chemotherapy, radiation, integrative care)

*Supportive care (cold capping, fertility preservation, pain management)

*Living expenses (rent, insurance, groceries, utilities)

*Recovery (post-treatment medical bills, survivorship support, physical rehab, mental health)

Even as Mary completes her treatment, the costs will continue to mount - from post remission scans, check ups, to everyday living costs without steady income. Our $85,000 goal reflects the full scope of this journey, including significant medical bills that have accumulated since the beginning of this year.
