Hello beloved community,

As of Monday (10/14) we moved mom in with me (Staci) in Oakland. She is now needing 24/7 care and we can not afford that in her home. She will be with me through this last phase. One of Mom’s commitments after she was diagnosed was to make it to Lowen’s (her grandson) black belt test.  She and Lowen promised each other that they would both make it - he as a black belt candidate and her, well, alive. This was last Sunday and they did it!  This was the final thing she needed to be in LA for. It was a gorgeous test and ceremony….if you wanna see the pictures and videos, we have many.

Thank you for you ongoing support to our Mom, MK, and to all of us. You have given care and love, been with us for meltdowns, and listened to the !%&*#!! of navigating Medical and Medicare. Many of you text mom regularly, have sent flowers, resilience pictures and playlists, and T-shirts. Thank you. You also helped us raise nearly 15k this summer! We used this to hire caregivers for mom so she could live in her own apartment as long as was possible. We are committed to paying a living wage and supporting caregivers who are also organized/leaders. Most of the folks who partnered with us were from the Filipino Workers Center. Some had gone through NDWA’s SOL program. That was an amazing full circle.

We are asking again for your support for caregivers, now in the Bay.  We are entering hospice which will come to my house. This includes nursing, social workers, and spiritual support, but no daily care giving. We are looking to cover 8 hours/ day for 5 days a week.  Me, friends and family will cover the other 128 hours per week. :)  I will primarily be at home with her too, but a care giver means she has other company, and I have a break to work, connect, exercise and deal with all the logistics of dying.  This costs about $1000/week.

You have been very generous already.  Thank you for considering giving again.

With respect,

Staci, Wendy and Shawna
