Mary Ellen Sabatino has touched the hearts of countless children and their families over the last 24 years she has been a teacher here at the Ridgewood Co-Op. We are reaching out to her Co-Op family (current and alumni) to see if we can give a little back to her at this time.
Over the Christmas break, Mary Ellen and her family received the devastating news that her husband Al has stage 4 lung cancer. They are all heartbroken. Mary Ellen has told me that she feels her whole world just came crashing in on her and her children.
She is staying home with Al each day now so that she can care for him, and take him to doctor's appointments. In addition to caring for Al, Mary Ellen is also taking care of her 90+year old Mother who is living with her. She is under an enormous strain emotionally and financially.
The Co-Op is doing what we can for her at this time, but with Al not working and Mary Ellen staying at home to care for him, finances are going to become difficult for them. We knew that there are so many people in our community who would want to help her and show their love for her. We are hoping to provide her with funds to help offset the cost of some of the medical expenses that are not covered by insurance as well as cover some everyday expenses .
No amount is too small. There are so many of us whose lives were touched by Mary Ellen. If we all give even a small amount it is sure to add up quickly.
Thank you so much. Please keep Mary Ellen, Al, and their children in your prayers.
