MaryBeth's Road to Recovery

On April 6th we were having a family day at the Raddatz farm. That is our normal Sunday; spent with family. The kids were checking chickens, the boys were putting the dock in the lake, Gretchen was horseback riding and brushing her horse, and Mary was working her new to the farm horse. Danny was Mary's new horse and a beautiful horse at that! Mary spent most of the day on Sunday walking him and working him in different areas of the farm. After a few hours everyone had started to close up for the day and we were all getting ready to head home. Randy had been closing the books when Danny had run past the shop door...WITHOUT Mary. With a quick look at our security camera we noticed Mary laying down in the farm driveway. We all went running!

Mary had been in a tragic accident that Sunday while riding Danny. This accident has put her in Regions with a fractured pelvis and back. She is also suffering from a brain injury, which has led to her being placed into a medically induced coma. The doctor's main focus is her brain. They want to make sure the bleeding has stopped and the swelling has either been maintained or went down.

As of Monday April 7th the swelling has stayed the same. Doctors took the tubes out of her head today that were monitoring her brain and they also tried turning the vent off to see if she was able to breathe on her own. She was unable to breathe on her own today. By the end of today they have placed her back into the induced coma and will try again tomorrow.

The good news? Yes. We have good news during this whole event. Today (Monday April 7th) when doctors woke her up a bit she was able to move her eyes a bit and scribble on a piece of paper. Doctors were asking her questions and she was able to slightly nod. This is good news. Mary's son Scott has been there all day today and has said he knows she can hear him, so he has been talking to her constantly.

We have no answers on what the future holds for Mary or where we go from here. We get new updates every few hours and we are taking things one hour at a time. Mary is a huge part of the Raddatz family, the Raddatz Farm, the Raddatz Hay and Grain LLC business and her husband's light of his life. Mary is known for always having a smile on her face and always making a dark day brighter. She loves spending time with her grandkids and she had garden plans this summer to plant tons of flowers and pumpkins with her grandkids; Addie, Easton, and Merritt. We have been spending the past 24 hours getting things figured out for Dennis and helping him move through his day to day life. She definitely was the glue in their household and managed a lot of the bills, grocery shopping and countless other things. Mary has health insurance, but we are hoping we can help Dennis at least get the amount needed to pay her deductible. This would release the financial stress he faces.

We appreciate all the help we have received so far and the Raddatz family couldn't be more grateful for all the texts, phone calls, and stops at the farm to check on us and Mary's well being. Mary has SO MANY people who love her and she will have a long road ahead of her.
