MaryBeth is a junior in college at MSU in Springfield MO...She has always been a sports activist making it to the National and State levels not only in high School but in college as well. Marybeth is also a wonderful Nanny to two children, a wonderful example for her little brother and sister, and a friend to all that she comes in contact with.
Recently MaryBeth was diagnosed with Chiari Syndrome. Chiari malformation occurs when the section of your skull containing part of your brain (cerebellum) is herniated and deformed...this causes extra pressure and crowding on the brain. The pressure causes that part of your brain to be pushed into your upper spinal canal causing weakness, dizziness, severe headaches, vision problems, hearing problems, poor hand coordination, trouble swallowing.
MaryBeth has been referred to the Colorado Chiari Institute for surgery...She and her Mother, Kim, leave on October 15th for the first trip to Aurora Colorado for surgery consultation. They have been rushed through because of the severeness of MaryBeth's condition. Surgery will follow. The neurologists have stated that general measurements for the herniations in the brain measure in the millimeters. Unfortunately the herniation in MaryBeth's brain is measuring in the centimeters.
The cost of the surgery is close to $250,000.00. Insurance is covering all but approximately $8500. There will be travel and other expenses for the trips to Colorado as well as lost wages during the surgery and recovery process. We are asking for help to get the copay and deductibles paid so there is nothing to slow the surgery process.
