MaryBeth LaForge (Kittoe) Lung Cancer Fund

It has been a rough year for mom (nana), full of doctor and hospital visits.  The last visit however was the worst.  This is when the doctors learned what was causing all her medical issues.  She has stage 4 small cell lung cancer.

She has been in the hospital since October 12, 2020 at a cost of over $2,000 a day.  She has undergone a procedure to remove a pulmonary embolism from her lungs and another procedure to remove a blood clot from her heart.  She has undergone countless CT's, MRI's and x-rays.

Mom has lost roughly 60 lbs and is currently on antibiotics for pneumonia in one of her lungs and on oxygen to keep her blood oxygen level from dropping to low.  She has undergone radiation and is in her second round of immunotherapy.  She will have a minimum of three rounds of immunotherapy of $5,000 a treatment.

In her room they have a board which list out things like the patient's name, emergency contact, PT schedule, etc.  But the thing that caught my eye was the number of doctors listed on her board.  There were so many they didn't all fit in the area reserved for doctors.  There was a pulmonologist, cardiologist, radiologist, oncologist, thoracic surgeon, and primary care and I'm sure I'm missing one or two.

If being in the hospital for that amount of time isn't bad enough she is doing it in the times of Covid 19.  Making it very difficult for people to visit.  Currently she is limited to one visitor per day and that visitor can only come in the building once.  Once they leave, they cannot come back in.  This makes for a very lonely stay in a time when she should be surrounded by those who love and support her.

Mom has been unable to work since well before this most recent hospital stay, but she is so lucky to have her amazing husband Dennis.  He works Monday through Friday and goes up to the hospital every night to see her and bring her something other than hospital food.  Something she can hopefully eat and  doesn’t make her nauseous.  I don't know how he juggles it all.  Getting endless amounts of information from countless doctors, updating family and friends, taking care of the house, grocery shopping and all the other everyday life tasks.

My mom and Dennis are very proud people, and they would never ask for help and that is why I am doing that for them.  The medical bills are hard to fathom and any help they can get from friends and family would be so greatly appreciated.  It would be so awesome to give them a little relief and good news this holiday season.  For all the donations made up to Christmas 2020 I will match up to $2,500.  I know a donation is not practical for all and that is why we are also asking for prayer and well wishes.

Thank you for your time and getting to know my mom’s story.  I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and most importantly healthy New Year.

Mom's Loving Son.
