Hi All -
Several weeks ago my mom (Mary) was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Like most cancer news, we were very shocked! But it all made sense with her very low white blood cell count and months of fatigue, bruising and headaches. My mom is usually a very busy person, she would typically be working, taking care of my grandmother, her own household and spending lots of active time with my niece and of course socializing. She had flown out to California to help and spend time with my son River. While she was here she was fatigued and had a hard time moving, she visited the Oncologist at Sharp and was within days told she needed to fly back to Kentucky to see an Oncologist to have a Bone Marrow Biopsy. We quickly booked her a flight home, and within a day she was admitted to the hospital (University of Kentucky) to undergo more tests and determine her treatment plan.
Due to the type of cancer she has been diagnosed with we are unsure of how long she will undergo treatment. The first step is a round of outpatient chemo therapy and then she will be admitted for a month for additional testing and determination if she has gone into remission. This may be a long road of repeat treatment or the ultimate hope of it being short. Either way I'm asking for your support in my mothers fight, so she can focus solely on fighting, recovering and healing. My father will be staying with my mother during her treatment, due to COVID and being immune compromised you can only have one person from the household stay with you, and they cannot leave (even to get food from the outside world). Both of my parents will be out of work, my mother fighting the disease and my father focusing on supporting her. I ask for your support during her fight, monetary (to pay everyday bills and medical), positive vibes, prayers, love vibes, calls to my mom, face-times are all support. However you feel you can support her... my family is open to it and 100% appreciates it. I realize these current times are trying on all of us and love is the greater strength that we can give one another.
