Mary Jo's Journey

Hi everyone!

My name is Caitlin! I'm Mary Jo's daughter. But since you're here, most of you probably already know that! And most of you probably also know that a Go Fund Me is the last thing my mom would ever want to do… she would never want to “put anyone out” or “be a burden” (her words not mine lol). She truly is the most selfless and caring woman! To know her is to love her. She constantly puts others first; even when SHE is the one battling this cancer. Which is why we, her kids, have made the decision to do this for her.

For those who don’t know, here’s what’s going on…

In January of 2022, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 appendiceal cancer; cancer that was found after she had an emergency appendectomy. After getting the initial path report with the diagnosis, we immediately established care at Houston Methodist Hospital in the Med Center. We have had the BEST team of doctors, nurses and staff! We have been so blessed!

Since her diagnosis in January, mom has had 3 scans, multiple blood draws, a port placed, gotten 5 rounds of chemotherapy + immunotherapy and today, June 21st, 2022, she is having surgery where they will remove all affected organs in her abdomen, as well as any other non-essential organs to prevent future spread of the disease. (If you want more information about the disease progression and how her journey has been up to this point, I will attach a link to her caring bridge site as well.)

So many of you have asked how you can help... Many have offered to bring food or supplies to the house once she's home after surgery. The thing is, since mom is having GI surgery, we're not quite sure what she will/won't be able to eat during her extended recovery. So me, Joey and Jordan have decided that a fundraiser like this would probably be best as far as "what we need" moving forward.

We plan to use ALL funds received to pay for necessary items; hospital bills, medical supplies she may need, groceries, etc. We are not by any means expecting donations! We are simply trying to find an outlet/opportunity for those who have ASKED how they can help. So please do not feel obligated to give if you're not able. We appreciate all of the support, prayers, donations, meals, etc. more than you will ever know!! It truly is so humbling.

With love,
Caitlin, Joey and Jordan

*We understand that many of you would rather make/cook something physical and we SO appreciate that! But before cooking, please reach out to myself or Bub so we can let you know of any dietary restrictions she may have after surgery!
