Mary Gibson's Road to Recovery

Hi Everyone,

My name is Cody Gibson and I am Mary Gibson's son. As many of you may know my mom has had some medical issues that have piled up over the past year and I'm starting this fundraiser in an effort to help us both get her on the right road to recovery. Here is our story:

In May of 2021, we lost my father unexpectedly to a heart attack, and after briefly grieving the loss of my father, my mom began having some health problems herself beginning with an episode in the Fall of last year where she passed out at her home. After being hospitalized, it was determined that she had a rare condition on her brain called an Arteriovenous malformation. This is a condition in which the veins in her brain are in a knot and the blood flow is compromised and does not supply the proper oxygen rich blood to areas of her brain that effect her speech, writing, reading, and comprehension. Over the past year, these symptoms have worsened, and have severely impacted her quality of life.

This past week, I took her to the Cleveland Clinic to get checked out and it was quickly determined that the AVM had ruptured, causing her to have a small stroke and bleeding in the brain which has impacted her ability to do things like read, write, speak, and understand. She spent 4 days in Intensive Care, 2 days in Neuro Step-Down, and is now in process for going to rehabilitation.

I've elected to keep my mom in rehabilitation here in Cleveland as I do believe she will receive the best care possible here. She will need a minimum of 3 weeks before she can even have the opprotunity to go home.

I've decided to further my leave of absence from work with the help of FMLA to be with my mom. She doesn't want me to be off of work any longer than I need to be, but also told me today that she'd love if I could stay with her or be close. This fundraiser will be directly used to help me maintain things while being off of work such as hotel costs while down here, food, and my rent and bills back home.

I'm not one to generally ask for this kind of thing, and if you can't donate, I'll kindly just ask for your prayers and positivity for my mom's speedy recovery. Thank you to all of you.
