Mary Anne's Journey to a Proper Resting Place

Hello, I am raising this money to give Mary Anne Erceg a proper funeral and burial. She was a neighbor in our building for over 40 years. She died suddenly one day on May 28, 2024 discovered by a neighbor. Mary Anne has no family, nor relatives that anyone could find at the time when she died. The Coroner's Office took her body and buried it on Hart Island in the Bronx. I only found this out on February 27th of this year and oddly enough her birthday was the next day, February 28th! My heart has been hurting and I've been searching for a way to find her and honor her life. I finally decided to look up where they could possibly have taken her and I found her! Thanks to a young man who works at Hart Island in the Bronx, she is in an unmarked grave with others who are not found, with a white post with a number on it marking her place of rest.

That broke my heart.

He told me how to, if I wanted to, give her a proper burial.

MaryAnne was a very sweet person and always greeted with in the lobby of our building with "Hello Kiddo!" and would have just come back from shopping at Trader Joe's or Pioneers carrying bags of groceries. I would always offer to help her to bring them up to the third floor, and she would always refuse saying that's what kept her strong!

I feel in my heart that giving her this burial is the proper thing to do and I, myself, cannot afford the entire cost. It's very expensive to do this in NYC.

I want to give her a proper Christian Service and burial and/or Cremation. Please help to give her the dignity she deserves by doing this for her. All the money will go directly to the funeral expenses and with anything left over, to a charity for people who cannot afford funerals.
