In Loving Memory of Mary Akinyi Ireland ️
It is with immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mum, Mary Akinyi Ireland—beloved wife to our dad, John; devoted mother to Belinda, Tom, Emma, and Mark; cherished sister, grandmother, aunt, and a guiding light to many.
Mum was deeply loved, and her loss is felt across continents and communities. In recent months, she bravely battled a rare and aggressive cancer. Though her illness came swiftly, she met it with the same strength, grace, and courage that defined her life.
From our magical childhood in Kenya to joyful days in Newbury filled with Mum’s amazing cooking, and her ever-present encouragement on the sidelines of our sports, her love was constant, generous, and unconditional.
In recent years, Mum poured her heart into community activism, becoming a passionate force for land conservation and women’s empowerment in Kenya. She helped found the Kikopey Women’s Craft Group, a space for creativity, dignity, and connection—values she held close throughout her life.
Why We're Raising Funds
We are touched by the kindness of those who have asked about supporting Mary’s funeral costs and creating a memorial garden. If you are in a position to contribute, any amount, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated.
Any remaining funds after funeral costs will go towards the Kikopey Women’s Craft Group, continuing the work Mum started — uplifting women through creativity, solidarity, and enterprise.
