Marvin's Rehabilitation Fundraiser
Donation protected
My brother Marvin has been struggling with alcoholism since 2011. This was brought on by multiple factors in his life out of his control: change of career, financial instability, and a divorce. There are so many lives I've seen affected by this disease, and never thought it would happen in my family. Yet here we are.
Marvin is an enormously talented and hard-working guy. He was a professional opera singer and bar tender for many years, before his life took several harsh and unexpected turns.
Recently, he approached me and asked for help after a dangerous withdrawal. This was a very good sign, as it is the first step to a true recovery. But he needed immediate care. I enrolled him in a rehab program as quickly as I could and he is there now and doing very well.
Here's the problem: he has no health insurance. All rehab costs had to be paid in advance, and this is threatening to destroy what little savings he has. He is also paying child-support for his 11-year-old daughter. We, his family, are doing everything we can to help, and have taken on large loans to get him the care he needs. My parents and I are happy to do this, of course. But our incomes are modest, and we can only do so much.
So if you can pitch in to help Marvin with the initial costs to get him to rehab, it would take an enormous pressure off of him and us, and he can then fully focus on his long-term recovery.
Marvin will be in rehab on his birthday. He would be delighted to know that his friends are thinking about him. The best gift you can give him now is your support.
Thank you so much in advance.
