Our family tragically lost its hero, my dad, to COVID-19 this past Easter morning. Marvin Lawton was a great man and even better father; a man full of faith, love, joy, empathy, kindness, loyalty, and devotion to family, friends, and strangers (who were just new friends). He would do anything for anybody, with a huge smile on his face. He truly loved God and serving in all capacities.
While we know he's in a better place, his loss leaves an unfillable void in our lives. My mom lost her love and best friend, the man who was her rock and #1 supporter. My siblings and I lost the best father we could ask for; my dad never missed an opportunity to tell us how much he loved us and how proud we made him.
Friends remember Marvin for his infectious, jolly laugh, his warm smile, and his big hugs. Whenever somebody asked how he was, he'd answer "on top of the world." Behind God, family, and friends, he loved his Patriots and FSU. He loved making food (especially BBQ ribs) and sharing it with friends.
Unfortunately, this tough time has been made harder: mom has been furloughed from work indefinitely. My dad was the primary provider, and my mom and siblings' healthcare went through his employer. My mom, sister, and brother are all also in different stages of fighting/recovering from COVID-19. We've set up this GoFundMe as a way to help my mom and siblings get back on their feet; to cover bills, medical costs, funeral expenses, and legal expenses (for estate administration). I will be withdrawing funds directly and sending them to my mom.
We know this is a hard financial time for many, so please do not give if it puts a strain on your family. We set this up primarily for friends and family who have asked how they can help us through this heartbreaking and challenging time.
