On June 10th, my youngest brother, Marvin Keir, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Metastatic Testicular Cancer (the highest stage for testicular cancer). Upon diagnosis, his doctors revealed that the cancer had spread to his brain and lungs—making it hard for him to breathe. His doctors assured us that although his case is highly aggressive, treatment and cure was possible. Marvin underwent four rounds of intense chemotherapy and surgery in an attempt to cure his cancer. Sadly, the treatment was unsuccessful, and the doctors are now estimating that he has approximately 6 months left to live.
Although Marvin is 32-years-old, he is developmentally delayed and sees the world from the lens of a sweet little 8-year-old boy. His greatest wish is to fly back to San Diego, where we grew up, to see his big brother and his friends. Marvin loves animals and roller coasters and his bucket list dream is to visit Sea World and Knott’s Berry Farm.
Marvin wants to fight his cancer and he wants to live. There is a possible chance of recovery if he can move to Denver from Colorado Springs to receive specialist care and an even more aggressive course of chemotherapy and stem cell treatment. This chemo will be very intense, requiring hospitalization and bone marrow transplants. We are still waiting to see if he is eligible to receive this treatment, but even if he does receive it there is only a 30% chance of success.
I am seeking donations so that I can bring joy to my family in this dark time by making Marvin’s bucket list dream of a California trip come true. I want to ensure he has the best quality of life over the next several months. A portion of the donations will also support my mother’s move to Denver for Marvin’s care. She is a single mother who is without employment because she has been caring for Marvin and my father with Alzheimer’s and she doesn’t own a car. I want to make sure she has the money to live and visit her son in the hospital.
Unfortunately, my family and I have been hit by several hardships over the past few years and therefore we have no savings. We are seeking help to support Marvin during this difficult time. Thank you for your continued love and support!
