Marva Collins Cottage School Building Fund

Hi, my students call me Ms. Amaya. I am an educator passionate about celebrating the JOY of learning! As an independent school educator, I found myself defending joy and working to create a sense of belonging for all students. I volunteered on our Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee and lobbied for change with leadership. It was the racial reckoning of 2020 that led me to CREATE the space I'd been fighting so hard to develop within predominately white institutions. I wondered if we could better achieve equity if we started with a multicultural institution....one that already honored BIPOC cultural traditions beyond a heritage month. This was a daunting task and many of the other teachers I'd asked about collaboration weren't ready to take the risk. However, the calling was so pronounced that I couldn't give up! Perseverance and belief led to the establishment of Marva Collins Cottage School . Today we are a PreK through Grade 2 microschool with goals to expand grade levels as students matriculate and enrollment increases. This Go Fund Me is our fundraiser to build our first classroom. Help us create a safe space where exceptional academics and culturally responsive curriculum go hand in hand. My journey to education has come with great personal sacrifice.
