My name is Kathy, and I am the owner of a wonderful 3-year-old cat named Marty. Marty was a stray who I adopted 1.5 years ago after he had lived on the streets his whole life.
His chief desire in life is to run, jump, climb, and play.
When I took him in for his yearly wellness check and vaccinations, the vet said that he was in "the prime of his life" health-wise.
Then, Marty went from being a "1 in a million" cat to a "1 in 10,000" chance of developing cancer, from what is called an Injection Site Sarcoma.
As you can imagine, I was devastated. Since then, I have learned that every cat recieves vaccines when they are younger, and every cat has a 1 in 10,000 chance of developing cancer at the injection site of these vaccines. Marty reacted to his injections by developing 2 lumps within 3 months of the vaccines, which grew to the size of grapes within 2 months.
We did all the diagnoses and decided that lump removal was the precautionary thing to do, only to find out that he had a sarcoma that grew beyond the lumps.
Marty now needs to have his hind leg amputated. All because of a vaccine that every cat takes!
For diagnostics, I spent $1,500.00, the lump removal was $3,200.00, and now I'm facing up to $6,000.00+ for limb removal.
If the amputation successfully contains the sarcoma, Marty can have many years of play left ahead of him. I am so sad that my baby-boy has to go through this, but I believe in his ability to persevere, even as a 3-legged cat.
As you can see, it is quite a financial burden to keep our fur-boy healthy. While not doing the surgery is a choice, we just couldn't make that choice a consideration.
Any help is gratefully accepted.
Thank you so much! I really hope that we are able to put the odd's back in Marty's favour, and help him beat this cancer!
Kathy.
P.S., here are some photos of Marty since he has been with us...
