On October 27, 2018, our lives were forever changed. Our father was diagnosed with lung cancer. It started with some back pain that eventually worsened and lead to the doctor who suggested he get an MRI on his back and neck. The results came back and it showed a mass next to his spine on the nerve sheath about 2x1.5cm in size. We did not know at that time if it was cancerous or not. Dad went to a few doctors but ended up back in the emergency room every week. Finally, the last visit on October 27, they did a full MRI and CT scan and that is when they found the mass on his lung, in his liver, and tumors all down his spine. We are devastated. We are at an absolute loss for words but we are hopeful. We are strong because he is strong.
Dad has worked in masonry his whole life, since he was a child, no joke. He has done brick, block, stone, tile, concrete, shotcrete, you name it and he has done it and not only has he done it but he is damn good at it and the best that I have ever seen. He is not one who pains easily. He is the toughest and strongest man I know so when he told us and we saw how much pain he was in, we didn't take it lightly. Dad has worked his rear off his entire life to keep a roof over our heads, food in our bellies, and clothes on our backs. He has given his last dollar to someone in more need of it than him. He would give you the coat and shirt off of his back during a blizzard, because that is my father. He taught us to care for others, nature, and most importantly family and ourselves. This man isn't just our father, he is our best friend and that is why we need your help so badly.
We have an appointment with the oncologist Thursday, November 1, for a consultation. I am hoping they will be able to do something quickly about the tumor that is pressing against his spine which is causing him the most pain. He cannot use his right arm much at this point and has been without sleep for weeks. He is able to sleep but its only for a few hours here and there on and off. We know he is going to need surgery and probably chemo or radiation, we are not 100% positive at what all we are looking at until we do the consult Thursday. But, what we do know, is he is already drowning in debt because of this. Dad was in the middle of getting his company started and up off the ground so he is in between health insurance right now. He is already over $5,000 in debt just from the MRI's and emergency room visits, not to mention the orthopedic surgeon they sent him to before they knew what the situation was and the other doctors he has visited in-between. We need all the help we can get to help him stay as stress free as possible during this whole situation. If we cannot get health insurance for him or financial assistance, because they are very limited in funding, we are terrified that he will be so stressed from the amount of debt that he puts himself into that he won't have the spirit to stay positive and keep a positive outlook which could diminish his outlook on the whole situation. I know he would never give up, that is not in his soul. But, there is only so much one man can take. Please, share this, donate, spread the word. This man has given people a place to call home when they had no home of their own. He has given people food to eat when they had nothing to eat or anyway of paying for food. He is not a saint, believe me, but he is the greatest man I have ever met and he is our best friend and our father. We cannot let him leave this Earth before he sees his grand-babies grow up. We thank you from the very depths of our hearts. We are staying positive and hopeful and expect him to pull through this but we can't do it alone.
