Marty Wheeler Burnett's Sabbatical

Donation protected
On May 28, I will begin my first-ever sabbatical - a time for renewal and creativity. I have been working professionally as a church musician almost every weekend and most holidays since I was a senior in high school. I have loved my musical career as a professor, independent music instructor, choir director, and organist, and I have been blessed to work with wonderful students, choristers, and colleagues. I am incredibly grateful to my church, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Omaha, for this opportunity.

During the summer, I will be attending the Association of Anglican Musicians national conference in San Antonio and serving as First Alternate Deputy from the Diocese of Nebraska at the Episcopal General Convention in Austin. For the entire month of August, I have been appointed as a Dean's Scholar at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria. During that month, I plan to complete several composition projects (sacred choral and organ music) and an article for publication. I will be working with a mentor to improve my music notation software skills. In between, I'm taking a Great American Road Trip, visiting family and friends throughout the South. Living so far away from my family for most of my career has been difficult, so I'm taking this opportunity to visit most of them along the way.

Professionally, the last three years have been some of the most exciting and satisfying of my career. That same period has been a challenging one, both personally and financially. So, I'm asking for your assistance. If you have enjoyed one of my compositions, sung in one of my choirs, studied in one of my classes, taken lessons, or benefitted from my work in any way during the past 40 years, I would be honored if you could contribute toward my sabbatical fund. Your gift will help with travel, housing, and transportation costs and allow me to fully immerse myself in this  creative, restorative time away. Please keep me in your prayers, and thank you for your friendship, love, and support.
