Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm raising funds for my father-in-law, Marty.

While Marty was driving to work on Monday (February 13th), he got into an accident with a semi-truck. By the grace of God, a State Trooper had been watching the intersection and was by Marty's side within moments. His initial ministrations saved Marty's life. As the trooper saw Marty's music and school supplies, he noted that he could tell what a kind man Marty was :). Within about 20 minutes of the accident, the Mayo Helicopter arrived at the scene to take him to the level 2 trauma center in Eau Claire.
After approximately 7 hours, the doctors and surgeons stabilized him, as Jill and the family waited anxiously in the waiting room. The accident left him with many injuries, most notably head and brain trauma. The doctors don't consider the injuries to be life-threatening, but we won't know the extent of the trauma or the long-term effects for a while. He had many other injuries, as one would expect with a major car accident, but they will continue to treat them individually. Brain injuries are complex and heal slowly over time. There will be many small and difficult steps on the road to his recovery, but we are trusting in God that he will provide comfort and healing.

Jill (Marty's wife) has visited him every day in the hospital in Eau Claire and traveled with him when he was transferred for specialized care in Rochester, MN. Jake and Zach (Marty's two sons) support their mom and talk to Marty in the hospital as much as they can. At this point, Zach's Navy responsibilities have prevented him from being able to visit with his dad. Each day has provided us with new hope and new challenges, as God teaches our family patience and trust in Him.

In only a few days, our family has been amazed by the outpouring of love and support from everyone. I don't think Jill and Marty truly realized how much their lives have touched others. Jill reads all the comments on the Caring Bridge daily and is so filled with gratitude and love. Updates will continue to be posted on Caring Bridge, so please check there for the most recent info. We know God is hearing the many prayers offered up for him.

After many requests from all of you, Jake and I convinced Jill to allow us to start a GoFundMe so that people can support her in a tangible way. All the money will go straight to Jill so that she may use it for healthcare costs, cost of travel to continue visiting with Marty daily, and other costs associated with Marty's ongoing care.

As family and friends, we are so grateful for your love and generosity to help "Mr. Music", get well!
