Last April Marty Ewing was tragically injured in a senseless act of violence. He was struck in the neck by a bullet that has left Marty partially paralyzed. The night this occurred doctors told Marty he would be lucky to move anything below his neck ever again. After seven months of grueling rehab at both the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago and then QLI in Omaha, Marty has regained all movement above his waist and is able to slightly move his legs on his own. Marty has rehabbed 6-9 hours a day 6 days a week for the past 6 months. This past month Marty completed “The Challenge”, a specific set of events designed by Marty’s therapists to test certain skills. A link below details Marty’s mindset and how he attacked this challenge. One of the things that Marty has been working towards is to compete in wheelchair rugby. Recently he was invited to join the Chicago Bears Wheelchair Rugby team upon his return home later this month. Athletics and competition have been a huge part of Marty’s life since he was a young child. His drive to compete again has helped him during the difficult days of rehab. One of the obstacles facing Marty upon his return home is the cost of a rugby wheelchair so he can compete. This page is designed to help raise funds to help Marty and his family purchase this chair so he can continue his rehab and begin competing once he is home. Below are a couple links detailing some of Marty's rehab at QLI. His positivity and mindset during this time are unmatched and I hope you will help this young man continue to work towards his goals!
