Marti Schimmel Medical Fund

Donation protected
Marti Schimmel suffered severe neck injuries after a near fatal fall. She underwent extensive surgery to repair injuries to her cervical and thoracic spine. She spent the first weeks in the intensive care unit at Piedmont/Athens Regional Hospital in Athens, GA and is now being treated at Landmark Hospital. Marti is breathing on her own, with the aid of a tracheostomy tube, and will hopefully in the next week or so have that tube removed. She is still receving tube feedings until they tracheostomy tube is removed. Marti is currently doing physical therapy at Landmark, can move her arms and legs, is gaining strength daily and is able to walk short distances without a walker. She will ultimately require intensive physical therapy to impove her gross and fine motor movement and she will be transferred to the rehab unit at St. Mary's Hospital to receive this care once her tracheostomy is removed and she can breath unaided.

Marti has health insurance but will require immediate financial help to cover ongoing medical expenses that inevitably are not entirely covered by insurance. She will also, for the unforseeable future, require physical rehabilitation to help her regain function and movement in her right arm specifically.

Your thoughts, prayers, cards, and flowers have been an incredible boost to Marti and her family during this difficult time. Any monetary donation you make here will be used solely for the purpose of paying for Marti's medical expenses. All help is greatly appreciated!
