Hi, my name is Martin and I'm appealing to you as I would like to raise funds to enable me to enter a range of Disability Golf events in 2025, representing Glencruitten Golf Club nationally and internationally.
My journey to disability sport started in 2006 when I was suddenly struck down with a rare illness called Guillain Barre Syndrome. My body's immune system attacked my nerves with devastating effects. After spending nine months in hospital, I then spent many years in intense rehabilitation but unfortunately some of the damage caused was irreparable. In my case, I was left with bilateral foot drop and I now need to wear leg braces that help me greatly with balance, stability and confidence. In recent years I was introduced to Turbomed Braces and these wonderful inventions with their unique design have been nothing short of life changing, enabling me to once again take part in sporting activities.
Over the last few years, my passion for playing golf has really taken off and in 2024 I played my first 2 events on the EDGA tour (European Disabled Golf Association). I was very proud to place 2nd in the inaugural Scottish Open for Disability Golfers and also participated in the final event of 2024 in Portugal.
Disability Golf is a sport on the rise and it's my mission to help raise awareness and show people that no matter what physical challenges you face - golf can be a fun, inclusive and inspirational sport for all.
I've always loved competitive sport but after my illness I really didn't think I would be able to rekindle that feeling that I had as young man. The positive effect on me physically, mentally and emotionally has been profound.
This season I hope to enter some of the following events on the EDGA tour:
April 2025 - Pas de Calais Paragolf Open in France
May 2025 - Scottish Open for Golfers with a Disability
June 2025 -ISPS Handa Irish Open for Golfers with a disability
August 2025 - Czech Disabled Open
September 2025 -Lancashire Open for golfers with a disability
October 2025 - Daikin Madrid Open for disability golfers
All of the tournaments are self funded so If you can donate to help cover the associated costs of entry, travel and accommodation you can help me realise my dream of rising up the world rankings and making the cut for the prestigious G4D event at Woburn.
A huge thanks to all my supporters!
