Hello, my name is Janet Ponce and I truly appreciate you taking the time to read about my dads story. My dad was diagnosed with ALS about two years ago, for those of you who don’t know it’s a fatal neurodegenerative disease in which a person’s brain loses connection with the muscles. People with ALS lose their ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breath. Unfortunately there is no cure or treatment but there is medications to help slow the progression and ease some of his symptoms. He resides in Milton-Freewater and travels to OHSU to where he sees many doctors and does his physical therapy. The traveling back and fourth does get expensive as well as the medications can be extremely expensive. Any money donated will be used towards hospital bills and traveling expenses.
