Most of you know me as Crossfit Athlete Martina and others as Coach Martina and a lot of you may know I am currently fighting the biggest battle of my life. I was diagnosed with NK T-Cell Lymphoma in July 2023 a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. My treatment initially began with one month of chemotherapy in August 2023 followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy and then more chemotherapy. I thought I was in some form of remission but in July 2024 I began to feel unwell again and I felt unwell lesions started to appear all over my skin. After getting a skin biopsy it was discovered that my cancer was back, this time in my breasts, lymph nodes, nose and in multiple areas of my skin. Since my lymphoma was back and spreading fast and aggressively, I had to begin a new course of therapy. My current therapy involves 2 highly toxic chemotherapy drugs and immunotherapy with the plan to get my current cancer into remission so I can get a bone marrow transplant. I was approached my 2 really good friends from the the CrossFit community who wanted to start a fundraiser with the aim of showing me the support from the community that I love, and have devoted so much of my life and career too. I have given my permission for the community to do what they can do raise funds, as they are wanted to do something to give back to me for what I have given to CrossFit. This great community far and wide are planning on creating a WOD called ‘MARTINA’ which will be programmed by Emma McQuaid. I would be extremely grateful if you could all please come together and do this WOD and have some fun along the way as you do it. Remember to give it your all and ‘push yourselves’ The funds raised will be used to help support me travelling to Dublin and having to relocate to Dublin at some point early next year for an unknown number of months. It will also be used to help support the loss of income for both my husband John and I. I have become unemployed and will ever be able to return to coaching and doing what I love again. John will also have to take time off work to move to Dublin to support me while I undergo bone marrow transplant. It will also be used to help with travel overseas for potential other treatments if the stem cell transplant fails.
