The pandemic has been hard on all of us in different ways. For our friend, Marty, it meant he lost his job and the financial security that came from it. So far, he's been able to collect unemployment while working on writing projects. He's also starting an entrepreneurial venture that will hopefully begin supporting him financially.
While generally in good health, Marty's had a number of medical/dental issues pop up recently. It started with a trip to the ER because of intense pain from what turned out to be kidney stones. During the visit, a CT scan revealed a separate issue- a spot on his liver. He then had to have another CT scan (with contrast this time) to rule out anything serious there (as of now, they don't seem to be concerned about that).
Meanwhile, two hernias he's been dealing with awhile have come due for surgery. His double-hernia surgery is scheduled for April 13. Aaaannd... just for good measure, kid is getting two root canals a few days later!!
Thankfully, Marty was able to get a Marketplace insurance plan to cover a good amount of the procedures and diagnostics. But a hernia surgery isn't cheap, and the dental insurance he got *may* cover $200 of the dental stuff. When all's said and done, he'll be responsible for an estimated $5,200 in medical bills.
Instead of Marty stressing about his health AND how the heck he's going to pay these bills, I thought we'd try a little DIY socialized medicine. If you have some dollars to spare, show him some love. And if you don't, send some good vibes his way or bring him a little food while he's recovering. We're all in this together. Much love.
