In a time of war and crisis, and in the 250th year of the United States, Martin Luther King Jr. calls to us: not from the past, but from our shared future.
We invite all to join us on April 17-18 in Philadelphia at historic Mother Bethel AME Church as we pay tribute to the man who gave his life to our beloved struggle for freedom. We raise Martin Luther King Jr. as the voice which clarifies our revolutionary responsibility to renew the struggle against white supremacy and against the war-makers today. It is his vision that guides our thought and action toward a new democracy of peace, that we may rejoin humankind in a single garment of destiny.
Friday, April 17 evening is an artistic and musical narrative of revolution, beginning with the defeat of Reconstruction and featuring the Stylistics Revue, Bobby Zankel and the Wonderful Warriors of Sound 5 in a tribute to John Coltrane, a dance tribute to King as the Father of a New Nation, and dramatic recitations to show the undying flame of revolutionary democracy which the Black Freedom Struggle kept alive. Saturday, April 18 will host a panel titled “Can America Move Beyond White Supremacy? King Speaks to Freedom Fighters Today” and a townhall on our moral responsibility to renew the struggle for democracy in a time of war and chaos.
Help make this tribute possible by considering making a donation to the event. This event is free and open to the public. All contributions will go directly to cover honorariums for musical performers, dinner and lunch, and refreshments for both days.
