Help Martin Hooper as he battles cancer
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jordan Reid and I am fundraising to help my father-in-law as he begins his battle with cancer.
On March 20th of this year, Martin went to the emergency with headaches and fatigue, not expecting anything major to be going on, just to check in and make sure everything was ok. It was a shocking surprise to find after many tests, including multiple CT and MRI scans that there were signs of 2 masses on the right side of his brain.
On March 27th Martin went under the knife and had a 5-hour-long procedure to open and remove the masses from the right side of his brain, sadly the doctor found other masses on the left side as well. The doctor removed as much as he could, but we are still waiting to hear back about the severity of the cancer that was found, and where else it may have spread. The next step is uncertain at this point, but we are patiently waiting for the doctors to direct Martin on what the options are. We promise to keep everyone updated as we get more information.
Update April 18/2023
At the beginning of April Martin went to his family Dr and had his staples removed from his incision site (34 to be exact), the incision is healing wonderfully, and you would hardly even notice it if you didn't know Martin's story.
It was also at this visit that his Dr gave him the results of his PET scan that he had done a couple of weeks prior. From this scan, they could confirm that the cancer seemed to be in two places, his lung which is believed to be where it started, and his brain.
We are hopeful that no matter what comes Martin's way, he will continue being his upbeat and positive self.
On April 21st he will have his first official cancer clinic appointment, and from that, we hope to have a lot more answers about his treatment plan that we will update everyone when the time is right.
Martin has worked as a funeral director for many years and has always been a kind and caring person. He has always put the needs of others before his, and you can count if nothing else he will make sure you have a good chuckle. I am here now to ask friends and family to show the same kindness that he has shown time and time again, by not only helping to support Martin but also his family as he starts this journey.
Your donations would go towards the financial security of Martin, and his family in this uncertain time such as accommodation, transport and travel and medication to name a few. We appreciate all the love and support we have received so far and are grateful to have a wonderful community around us as all of this unfolds.
