Martin Holmes Celebration of Life

Donation protected

Martin (Marty) Holmes, age 61, resided in Carefree AZ,  suddenly passed away from complications due to agressive metastatic prostate cancer on Sunday, April 18, 2021 in the afternoon.  He owned Holmes Construction Inc. that built many homes for families and businesses in Cave Creek, Carefree, Paradise Valley, and throughout the valley and Illinois. Marty was married to Tami Holmes for over 24 years and they have 3 children together, Christina (23), Samantha (20), and Michael (15).

Marty had his PSA checked back in 2019 and recieved normal results.

Marty had lower back pain in the beginning of January but pushed it off thinking that it was a result from his chronic sciatic nerve problems. Marty saw a uroligist due to UTI symptoms on March 9th, 2021. He had a CT scan on the 17th of March to help diagnose his medical issues. On Monday March 29th, We recieved the results that confirmed that Marty had Metastatic Prostate Cancer that had spread to his spine and bladder. He was also diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. He was not a heavy drinker. This came as a shock to the family.

On April 5th, Marty and his wife, Tami, went in to see the doctor regarding the results of his CT scan.

The doctor scheduled a biopsy of his prostate and bladder the following Thursday on April 8th to determine what stage the cancer was and if it was both prostate and bladder cancer or just prostate.

On Sunday, April 11th, Martys eyes were slightly yellow, he had lost weight due to the fact that food did not taste good, he was nauseous, his face had visually sunken in and his skin was very pale. He spent most of his days laying in bed in pain from his back and he had a hernia in his abdomen.

On Monday the 12th, Marty & Tami got the results from the biopsy that confirmed that he had Advanced (stage 4/5) Prostate Cancer that had spread to his lyphnodes and had lesions on his spine from the cancer. The lifespan of someone with this stage of cancer is 5 years.

A doctors appointment was scheduled with an oncologist for April 20th to set up a plan of action to tackle the cancer.

On Wednesday, April 14th, Marty started to get nose bleeds when blowing his nose and the following day started coughing up blood with mucus.

On Saturday, April 17th, Marty's eyes were bright yellow and he was in a lot of pain from his abdomen. Tami, his wife, took him into the emergency room. They waited four hours for a room, and when he was admitted and taken up, he was given pain killers for his pain and antibiotics along with Lasix to relieves some of the fluid that was building up in his body and was to spend the night in the hospital. They had ran tests throughout the night, he recieved another CT scan as well.

On Sunday, April 18th, at 7:00 AM Tami got a phone call from the hospital asking her to come in sooner than normal visiting hours because he was stable but not improving and was told that they were going to be bringing him into the ICU. The hospital ran tests on his liver and the results were at a 16 when they were supposed to be at 4. The staff instructed Tami that they needed to start Dialysis to help filter his liver because he was going down hill. When Tami got to the hospital, Marty's skin was yellow and he wasn't able to breathe normally. They started Dialysis and his body was not able to handle it. Within 10 minutes of starting the treatment, Marty passed away in the presence of his wife.

He is survived by his Wife, Tami, Daughters, Christina & Samantha, and his son, Michael. He will be missed every day. His presence was so strong and his personality was one of a kind. He worked hard to provide for his family and now he is able to abundantly protect and watch over them every day.

The Holmes' insurance only covers a small portion of his medical bills from his stay in the ICU, multiple doctors visits, and the overnight in the hospital. In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to help pay for his medical bills to alleviate stress off of the greiving family at this time.
