Help Martin Fahrer become the next IRON MAN

Donation protected
On August 2022, Martin was diagnosed with colon cancer and was immediately scheduled for surgery on September 6, 2022, to remove the tumor. We expected difficult times ahead but did not anticipate that three days in the hospital followed by chemotherapy would turn into five and a half months in the ICU and life-changing complications. He went into septic shock and was in a medically induced coma until mid-October. We almost lost him several times - sepsis caused a stroke, kidney failure, and infections across his surgical sites. There were several conversations around DNR. We knew that he wanted to LIVE provided his mental capacity was not impacted. We are thankful that his brain is 100% there.

The blood pressure medicine that saved his life pulled all the blood to his central core to protect his organs, and as a result, his hands and feet died. His life was saved, but it has been forever changed. On Halloween, he went into his first amputation surgery for his right hand, November, his feet, and on Christmas day, his left hand. He is now officially a quadruple amputee.

We are so grateful for the outpouring of messages of support. We covered his hospital room with close to 200 cards.  They gave him so much comfort! In addition to cards, so many people asked where they could donate towards his care. He and I, Jenny, debated for a long time if we should set up a gofundme as we felt there were so many people who were in a worse position than we were. Unfortunately, the reality of his care has begun to set in.

We are now looking at modifying our home to make it wheelchair accessible (we had no idea that medical and homeowners insurance does not cover this need), prosthetics, nursing, wheelchair, and other recovery-related expenses.

He is now in acute rehab and is learning how to use devices to be more independent. The next 6-8 months will be hard. He knows this and is putting in 100% so he can be as independent as possible. With the help of prostheses, he will be able to walk, drive and return to WORK. He is determined, and so are we.

Thank you to everyone, we know times are hard right now and if you are unable to help - we understand. Say a prayer, smoke signal, mantra, or whatever your beliefs may include.
