Martia's road to recovery
Donation protected
Early September, Martia checked into emergency. We figured she just got a common bug that was going around. My, were we wrong. As I sat in the hospital room with my sister, I couldn't believe what I was seeing on the heart rate machine. An irregular heart rhythm. I recall her rate was 189 then it would shoot down to 30 within a beat. This did not seem right. Martia was transferred to the QE2 where the next day she had an emergency bypass surgery. Her heart was functioning below 10 percent and she was put on life support. Our family was in shock and terrified but we remained strong and supportive for her two young children and Husband. Throughout this difficult time, extended family and friends reached out to comfort us with many prayers, strong faith and positivity. That I believe is the reason for our miracle. Martia was matched with a donor for a heart transplant and was immediately prepared for a successful surgery. She is now recovering in hospital and getting stronger each day, although this will be a long recovery. We still don't know the cause of this and do hope we get answers soon. Our focus now is to just ensure that Martia has a smooth recovery and the support she needs when she returns home. Her Husband Dominic has taken time off from work to care for her 24/7. Dominic's mother and my mother have been a tremendous support for Dominic and the kids. I'm hoping we can come together and ease the financial hardship that comes with the sudden changes facing the Hudlin family. No matter what, as long as we have each other we have everything. <3
