My name is Victor Mendoza, grandson of Martha. My family are looking to gather funds from our community to help with the medical and funeral costs of our beloved Martha Castaneda.

For some background, earlier this summer my grandma received a visa to travel and visit her children and grandchildren in Chicago. I had the privilege of traveling to Mexico to accompany her on her very first flight ever.

We had a wonderful summer. It was filled with joy and laughter; my grandma was able to connect with family members she had never seen before and those she hadn't seen in decades. Although at times emotional, we cherished our time together

Fast forward into the fall, right before her scheduled trip back to Mexico, my grandma quickly fell ill. A trip to the hospital revealed she had leukemia that went undiagnosed for some time. On top of that, one of her kidneys began to fail.

This all came as both as a shock and surprise to us. Despite getting her the medical attention she needed, the doctors told us the day after Thanksgiving that there wasn't much they were able to do anymore.

At the time of this writing, my grandma is critically ill. She doesn't have much time left and everyday that passes we fear the worse.

Again, for this reason, we are asking for any help from friends, family members, and the community to help us cover the remaining medical and funeral costs as well as the transfer of her body back to her homeland in Mexico for a proper burial.

Mi nombre es Víctor Mendoza, nieto de Martha. Mi familia está buscando recaudar fondos de nuestra comunidad para ayudar con los costos médicos y funerarios de nuestra querida Martha Castaneda.

Para tener algunos antecedentes, a principios de este verano mi abuela recibió una visa para viajar y visitar a sus hijos y nietos en Chicago. Tuve el privilegio de viajar a México para acompañarla en su primer vuelo.

Pasamos un verano maravilloso. Estaba lleno de alegría y risas; Mi abuela pudo conectarse con familiares que nunca había visto antes y con aquellos que no había visto en décadas. Aunque a veces es emotivo, apreciamos nuestro tiempo juntos.

Avanzando rápidamente hacia el otoño, justo antes de su viaje programado de regreso a México, mi abuela se enfermó rápidamente. Una visita al hospital reveló que tenía leucemia que no había sido diagnosticada durante algún tiempo. Además de eso, uno de sus riñones comenzó a fallar.

Todo esto fue un shock y una sorpresa para nosotros. A pesar de brindarle la atención médica que necesitaba, los médicos nos dijeron el día después del Día de Acción de Gracias que ya no podían hacer mucho.

Al momento de escribir este artículo, mi abuela está gravemente enferma. No le queda mucho tiempo y cada día que pasa tememos lo peor.

Nuevamente, por esta razón, solicitamos la ayuda de amigos, familiares y la comunidad para ayudarnos a cubrir los costos médicos y funerarios restantes, así como el traslado de su cuerpo de regreso a su tierra natal en México para un entierro adecuado.
