Our dear friend Marta Huckstep, recently learned that she has to remove a large tumor (Acoustic neuroma) from her brain stem. Surgery is taking place on Thursday, March 11 at UVA Hospital. As tap room manager at Starr Hill, Crozet, Marta is a bright light in our community and has warmed many of our days with her gregarious, fun spirit and now she needs us to come together and support her and her two daughters through this trying time. As a life-long Albemarle County gal, she has been a loyal and giving community member and friend. The restaurant/bar industry is especially rough when someone needs time off and Marta will be out of work for at least 8 weeks and her need for support is now.

Life by definition is the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.
Growth and continual change...I am faced with this more now than ever.
You must grow in order to handle the continual changes that come and go like the tides.
My journey through life has lead me to where I am today.
My growth has given me the strength to take a devastating situation and face it with grace and strength.

News that no one is ever prepared to hear but as I reflect today...every struggle, every knock down, every heartache has prepared me to look this change in the eye and say you will not break me.
I will be stronger, braver, more compassionate and filled with more love.
I am blessed to be surrounded by so many strong and supportive people who are going through their own journey of growth and continual changes but have taken time to offer help.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me during this transition.
