Marshall’s recovery from life changing shooting

Hi everyone, my name is Meg, I’m writing this on behalf of our friend Marshall, whose life changed forever on May 20th when he was shot.

This senseless act of violence left Marshall in the hospital for two weeks, followed by another two weeks on strict bed rest.
Unfortunately, with so little time to fully heal, the financial pressure forced him to return to work while still in pain and recovering from his injuries. On top of that, Marshall is the devoted father of a 4-year-old, and the weight of providing for his child while managing recovery has created an even greater emotional and financial strain.

Marshall didn’t want to start a GoFundMe, but bills were beginning to fall behind. When I noticed, I encouraged him to do it so he could focus on recovery without the overwhelming stress of mounting expenses.

It’s important to share that Marshall was not involved in violence that day. He was simply being a friend, kindly asking a customer to leave when the situation escalated in a way no one could have imagined. What happened to him was not only unfair, but a heartbreaking reminder of how gun violence can change lives in an instant.

Marshall is someone who gives so much of himself to the people around him, and his neighborhood absolutely adores him. He’s the kind of person who shows up with kindness, humor, and generosity, and now it’s our turn to show up for him.

Sadly, gun violence is on the rise in Seattle, and too many lives in our community are being devastated. Marshall deserves the chance to heal without being pushed back to work before his body is ready, especially as he shoulders the responsibility of caring for his child. He still has one more surgery ahead of him but has been avoiding it because of the financial stress, which makes recovery even more challenging.

I’ve created this fundraiser to help ease the heavy financial and emotional burden Marshall is carrying. Donations will go directly toward his medical bills, rehabilitation, surgery, and basic living expenses so he can focus on what matters most: healing and being there for his child. If you’re unable to give, sharing this page is just as meaningful.

Thank you for standing with Marshall during this painful time, and for showing compassion in the face of such needless violence.
