Who is this Marshall Pierce guy? He is just your everyday husband; father, brother, uncle and poppa who is dealing with a crappy medical diagnosis of ALS. 
Marshall was  raised in Natick with his mom, dad, brother and sisters. His father being a musician instilled in Marshall a love for all things music.
Married to Barb in 1992 they relocated to Colorado Springs for Marshall’s work, there they lived for 17 years.
Brendan and Kilian were born in Colorado and the family had many friends. After a lay off from HP, the family decided to move back to Massachusetts to be close to family and friends.

 For the past six years, it has been a medical odyssey for Marshall, beginning with a fateful trip to the ER that would reveal kidney failure caused by an autoimmune disease.
The cascading health effects of this diagnosis continue, an already bad heart valve was pushed to failure resulting in open-heart surgery. Other complications and surgeries followed with only one single year without any hospitalizations. Then came June 2020, sent to the ER from dialysis for a suspected stroke causing slurred speech led down a path to a diagnosis no one wants to hear: ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), Marshall has the familial type as his sister Naomi was also diagnosed with ALS and has since succumbed to the disease. Marshall has the upper motor neuron or Bulbar version of ALS, this affects his speech, swallow and upper extremities first, he has lost the ability to speak already and swallowing is now limited to pureed food. He has issues drooling and currently needs a ventilator to assist him during sleeping. The hardest part is this disease has taken music and singing from Marshall, he has sold several instruments to help pay for the home modifications, he still has his best guitar; it will be handed down to Weebs, who is already singing away every day!

Now the hard part is we face the toughest part of our journey, we have to make modifications and updates for him to live his best life here at home. Luckily, we have family and great friends to help as we go forward, especially Poppa’s best pal Byron aka Weebs!  As we always do here, we get by with a lot of humor and sarcasm, although Marshall claims to be the funny one we all know it is really Barb! These times make you realize what life is all about love and caring!

Let’s step up and help our friend Barb and Marshall.  Barb has been working away making the modifications at the house and reinventing the house to allow Marshall the ability to navigate in the house.  ALS - This is a very unfair diagnosis, one which no one wants to ever hear, so the last thing the family needs is to have to worry about funds for Marshall’s comfort.
