Marsha Slavens medical transportation

My mom, Marsha Slavens, went into the hospital April 10th. She had a stroke at home and had to be taken by ambulance. A few days later, while in the hospital, the Drs found a small sore on her belly. They discovered it was Necrotizing Fasciitis, also known as flesh eating bacteria. She was rushed to surgery and that small sore ended up being a 22 inch long, by 5 1/2 inch wide, by 3 3/4 inch deep gash removing a huge section of her abdomen. She was in the Surgery ICU fighting for her life hooked up to a ventilator, feeding tube, and massive amounts of antibiotics.  After several weeks of continued critical care and failing multiple times to wean her off the ventilator, the Drs decided her best bet was to insert a trachiotomy in her throat. The next step was to get her off the ventilator, and it would be a long road. She was moved to a Long Term Care Hospital in Pineville, NC. She has made a good bit of progress. She can now breathe on her own without a ventilator, speak with a cap on her trach, can eat on her own, and in spite of weakness from the stroke and the giant wound left from Necrotizing Fasciitis, can stand by the side of the bed with nurse assistance. She has hit a roadblock now.  When they try to remove the trach, her throat collapses. The Drs are now concerned she will never be able to get the trach removed. This leaves her in a tough spot. The facility she is at has reached the limit of what they can offer, but with the trach still in, the ONLY facility that will be able to handle her multiple medical problems is in Tucson, AZ. The facility must have trach care, wound care, and the ability to provide her with dialysis 3 times a week. Due to her medical needs, she will need to be transported in a medical plane. The cost to transport her there is almost $40,000 one way, out of pocket. Once she gets there, her stay and treatment will be covered 100% by insurance. We just have to get her there. There is no where else she can go to get the help she needs, no other way she can be transported, and we have less than two weeks to move her. Please consider helping with this huge expense in any way possible.
