Hi fellow Mars Hill College Alumni,
In case you didn't see the video on our Mars Hill Alumni 1979-1987 group page, I'm going to introduce myself. I'm a 1983 graduate of Mars Hill College and started the Mars Hill Alumni 1979-1987 Facebook group page 16 years ago. I've been working with other alumni and non-profits in the area to provide help and funds to those affected by Hurricane Helena.
I just recently received a $1000 gift from another alumni. When looking for people still needing assistance, we were directed by a local church. The pastor provided three examples of immediate needs. I'm hosting this GoFundMe to make our gift larger so we can contribute to each.
Here is the promised GoFundMe link. This goal is to match the $1000 gift we received so we can donate a gift of $1000 each to three deserving Western North Carolina residents. No amount is too small!
One elderly couple needs a road so they can access their home safely. There are currently 7 families that use this road. Every time it rains, the road is damaged again. The need is for permanent repairs to be made to the road.
A young nursing student who lost everything just received a camper to live in. She lost everything.
Another individual is living in a home that is leaking water through the roof. They don't own the home, and the owner can't afford to fix the problem. They are still living in the home.
These are just three examples of situations where people adversely affected by the hurricane have fallen through the cracks. Certain criteria required of aid programs have left them without options.
Thank you all for your support, and let's see if we can offer a little hope to these people who are struggling.
God bless you all!
Susan Ramsey Platt
