Married 4/2018, Cancer 7/2018

Shawn and Barbara got married on April 22, 2018 becoming Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Bell.  Two months later while on honeymoon, Shawn began to feel some discomfort in his stomach. Not thinking too much about it, and without complaining too much to his new bride, Shawn continued celebrating a new life with his new wife. After returning home from their honeymoon, Shawn’s stomach discomfort began to occur more frequently, and his pain intensity increased. Both Shawn and Barbara decided it was time for him to seek medical treatment. After being seen by an emergency room physician, and a series of test, a tumor was found in Shawn’s large intestine. Shawn was admitted to the hospital to undergo emergency surgery to remove the tumor, which was later confirmed as Colon Cancer. Shawn was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 32. Once Shawn is cleared by his surgeon, he will need to have a Port a Cath placement, so he can start his Chemotherapy. Further treatment includes a PET scan and 12 cycles of chemotherapy for the next six months for starters. As we all know treatment for cancer patients is very costly, not to mention all the ancillary cost such as Oncology Doctor visits, surgical follow up visits, hospital cost and medication.

Listed below are some estimated cost that Shawn and Barbara are facing:

Emergency room visit, hospital stay and surgery – $110,000
Surgical follow up visits - $300 Up to this point.
PET scan – $6,000 to $8,000
12 cycles of Chemotherapy – $8,200
Medication - $175 Up to this point.
Lab work – Unknown at this time.
Oncology Doctor visits – Unknown at the time.
Port a Cath placement – Unknown at this time.
