Marrakech The Cat paw surgery - torn ligaments
Donation protected
Through pure tenacity and a very strong will to live, Marrakech The Cat has survived her kitten days of ribs-sticking-out starvation and cat flu sneezing fits, her battles against all manner of alien critter invaders of her space, and made it through to the ripe ( and fat ) old age of three with a Kitty Tube and a big backyard to call her very own, unlimited meals per day, and only one visit to the veterinarian for a nasty abcess on her shoulders.
Unfortunately, on Mon June 5, Marrakech somehow injured her front left paw and can not bear her usual weight on that paw and consequently can not walk normally ( in fact can barely walk at all ). Paw is swollen and she can not extend it fully ( by comparison with right paw ). She has mostly stopped eating and ( most concerningly ) drinking despite all manner of coaxing.
As we are now past the 24 hours mark, it would seem critical to take Marrakech to the pet hospital for a visit with a veterinarian.
Please donate to help Marrakech continue in good health her amazing life lived against all odds.
Update Mon 6/12 : Marrakech started eating & drinking on Thu 6/8. She can hop around on three legs but is no longer active, preferring to lie down in secluded areas of the backyards ( mine and neighbor's ) for long stretches of hours. Her front left paw is partially balled-up and slightly crooked extending to the outside ( compared with front right paw ). Her mood is subdued and, while still motivated to fight all intruders ( a very bad idea in her condition ) and still friendly to me, a sadness has come over her. Today I will try to capture Marrakech and take her to the vet for a check-up.
Update Wed 6/14 : I successfully captured Marrakech ( actually I tricked her while she was eating dinner ) and took her to BACS where once a vet or vet tech is available they will see her and provide a diagnosis for her paw.
Update Sun 6/18 : BACS says Marrakech has a microchip that indicates she has an owner who has been contacted. If owner doesn't pick her up then BACS is requesting that I adopt her. This is all very unclear and I wonder if they mixed-up the cats. I was told to call back on Tue when regular staff is available.
Update Wed 6/21 : Marrkech is back living in the greater backyards behind my house. Unfortunately BACS didn't do anything for her. She is limping quite badly and her paw looks crooked and balled-up. She's not her usual self and seems timid and afraid. Money is almost enough for a visit to a pet hospital for an exam and an x-ray.
Update Sat 6/24 : Tonight I successfully captured Marakech on the 2nd try after she'd slept in the sun all day. I took her to Berkeley Animal Hospital for evaluation including x-rays. Fortunately, she does not have a fracture. Unfortunately, she has a dislocated toe ( far outer on front left paw - equivalent of human pinky ). Significant scar tissue made it impossible for Dr. Holliday to move the bone back into the socket. Next radiologist looks at it, but most likely surgery will be necessary. Marrakech also received full vaccinations including rabies, leukemia, FIV, etc., meds for fleas/ticks/mites, pain meds, and removed foxtail from her teeth/gums where it had become infected, plus antibiotics injections.
