It’s hard for me to ask for help, but a few friends have asked for a way to support Marlowe and encouraged me to start a fundraiser.
Last month Marlowe ran over a cattle guard, tearing ligaments and dislocating bones in her rear leg. Initially it seemed like she could heal conservatively in a specialized brace, but she might never walk brace-free and would be high risk for re-injury and ongoing pain. The recommended surgery is a partial tarsal arthrodesis, or limb fusion of the doggie foot/ankle. Our other option would be full limb amputation.
It’s a huge privilege to have the option to opt for joint fusion to help my dog live a pain-free life. Unfortunately, surgical costs are high ($4-4.5K), even with a surgical resident performing the procedure. We will be traveling to Bend, OR for surgery. I’ve already spent ~$1K on diagnostics and consultations, with post-surgical imaging and follow-ups to come.
I don’t expect the full amount to be covered, but Marlowe and I appreciate any and every bit of support. Anyone who has met Marlowe knows that, in addition to being a literal angel, she loves going for her little hikes, hot girl walks, and chasing squirrels and snowballs. Marlowe’s presence in my life has been a true gift, especially while working the frontlines of COVID ICU. I can’t imagine not helping her heal. Thank you for helping Marlowe get back to her best life!
