Hello, my name is Charlotte and I am fundraising for my dog Marley so he can have a double hip replacement and the rehabilitation post op. I rescued Marley know as Major at the time from a neighbour. From 12 weeks old when they got him, he was left in a small space at the side of their house (around 2 and a half meters long and a metre wide). With a makeshift hut that was around a metre long and just under a metre wide with no soft bedding inside just a pallet for him to lay on. He was constantly crying until he realised nobody was coming. He was taken for walk for the first couple of weeks then just left. I asked them on numerous occasions if they would allow me to bring him from them but they were adamant that his was not for sale and his was treated well. When he was around 5 months old he start crying and whimpering as if they had hit him. Again I asked if I could buy him a give him a loving home. I called the rspca as over the weeks the noises got worse and more intense, they said they would send somebody out to check, but to my knowledge they have never been out to check. I called the police and they said there was nothing they could really do unless I had evidence of them hitting the dog. I received a call when he was 7 months old from my neighbours mother asking me to take the dog and straight away I said yes. My neighbour said he was aggressive and bit one of the children on their face and bit her leg. I had to wait for them to give him to me because they couldn’t find the keys for the gate where he was locked in, she openly said they hadn’t been able to find it for the past couple of weeks. When they finally managed to find the key he came running out towards me and jumped up and tried to nip me. I immediately realised there was something going on with his back leg/hips. He was walking/running with both back legs together and when he stood still they were slightly crossed. He was easily lead to my house. He behaviour changed instantly, no nipping, no jumping up but still standing/ walking with his legs together. We purchased insurance for him and waited a week to see if it was because of the space and the fact he had nothing soft to sleep on. When we visited the vets, he was straight away booked in for X-rays to try and find the cause. The X-rays came back and sure enough he had serious issues going on, this poor boy had hip dysplasia and it was made worse by abuse at the hands of his perilous owners. The X-ray showed he had a chipped bone on one of his hips and fragments of bone and tissue damage on both hips. The vet said the force of which they have beaten him was like him being hit by a car. They said they said the had not seen such serious hip dysplasia in such a young dog and they believe it is do to the previous owners abusing him. We changed his name as every time he was called he would wet himself. Marley associates the name major as a bad thing. Marley is now on monthly strong pain killers and 2 tablets of arthritis medication everyday. The insurance will only pay out £3,000 towards an operation due to him needing the ongoing medication he needs. The vet has said he can not stay on the pain medication long term so met only other option is to ask for your help please. This boy has had such a hard start to life. Outside in all weathers, beaten and deemed as a nasty dog all doe to him being excited to be out out that small space. He is now a well loved boy and very much apart of our family. He is amazing with my son and grandson and is enjoying being a loved pup. Every penny raised with go into Marley’s operation and rehab . Thank you for reading
