With a heavy heart, I swallow my pride and ask my community for help. Many who receive this message have followed my daughter Marley's 3+ year journey as she has struggled to fight the grasp of anorexia. You have seen the pictures from the hospitals and read the stories of sadness and frustration that this horrible disease has cursed us with. While she has made huge strides towards her recovery and has put in long hours of therapy, her health has recently deteriorated to a level requiring 24 medical observation. On Friday, August 26, she was admitted to a residential care facility in Miami. Our insurance provider cut off her coverage from a lower level of care on August 4 and has now denied the higher level of care due to a "lack of medical necessity," even though she is about to get a feeding tube to keep her alive. We continue to appeal the insurance decision, but for now, we have committed to self-pay for her care. The cost for self-pay care is $1,000.00 per day. To date, we have spent $100,000+ out of pocket for her care and have exhausted all our fund sources.
