Support My Parents During Hospice Care

Hi, I’m Diana, and I’m reaching out to fundraise for my parents during an incredibly difficult time.

If you know our family, you know how full of life and healthy my mom has always been. Nearly a year ago, our world turned upside down when she was diagnosed with stage 4 gastric cancer — the kind of news no one ever expects to receive.

Since then, she has bravely endured almost a year of chemotherapy and treatments. Recently, she faced a serious medical emergency and was hospitalized with sepsis. She was intubated and placed on a ventilator — but somehow, she fought her way back to us. Unfortunately, despite a strong regimen of antibiotics, my mother is now in hospice care at home.

My dad, who is nearing retirement, continues working so that he can maintain the health insurance coverage that has been vital for my mom’s treatments. He wants nothing more than to be with her every moment of these precious days, but unfortunately, taking time off means going unpaid and leaving his job means no health insurance. Their savings have already been stretched thin since my mom stopped working due to her diagnosis.

I’ve started this fundraiser in hopes of relieving some of that financial stress. Most importantly, I want to give my dad the chance to spend uninterrupted time with the love of his life — to simply be by her side without the constant worry about work or bills.

My parents built a life together from the ground up after coming to this country from Colombia with almost nothing. They worked tirelessly to provide for me and my sisters — and now, we just want to give something back to them.

Even a small donation — $5, $10 — would mean so much to them. Any extra money, would be used for funeral expenses. We humbly thank you for reading, for donating if you can, and for sharing this with others.

Hola, soy Diana y quiero recaudar fondos para mis padres en un momento increíblemente difícil.

Si conoces a nuestra familia, sabrás lo llena de vida y sana que ha estado siempre mi madre. Hace casi un año, nuestro mundo dio un vuelco cuando le diagnosticaron cáncer gástrico en estadio 4, el tipo de noticia que nadie espera recibir.

Desde entonces, ha soportado con valentía casi un año de quimioterapia y tratamientos. Hace poco tuvo que hacer frente a una grave urgencia médica y fue hospitalizada por septicemia. La intubaron y la conectaron a un respirador, pero de algún modo consiguió recuperarse. Desgraciadamente, a pesar de un fuerte régimen de antibióticos, mi madre está ahora en cuidados paliativos en casa.

Mi padre, que está a punto de jubilarse, sigue trabajando para poder mantener la cobertura del seguro médico que ha sido vital para los tratamientos de mi madre. Lo único que quiere es estar con ella cada momento de estos preciosos días, pero, por desgracia, tomarse tiempo libre significa que no le pagan su sueldo y dejar su trabajo significa quedarse sin seguro médico. Sus ahorros ya se han agotado desde que mi madre dejó de trabajar debido a su diagnóstico.

He puesto en marcha esta recaudación de fondos con la esperanza de aliviar parte de ese estrés financiero. Y lo que es más importante, quiero dar a mi padre la oportunidad de pasar tiempo ininterrumpido con el amor de su vida, simplemente estar a su lado sin la preocupación constante por el trabajo o las facturas.

Mis padres construyeron una vida juntos desde cero tras llegar a este país desde Colombia sin casi nada. Trabajaron incansablemente para mantenernos a mis hermanas y a mí, y ahora queremos devolverles algo.

Incluso una pequeña donación (5 o 10 dólares) significaría mucho para ellos. Cualquier dinero extra, se utilizaría para los gastos del funeral. Les agradecemos humildemente por leer, por donar si pueden, y por compartir esto con los demás.
