Marlene Cummings - Help us honor our mom

We lost our mom unexpectedly 10 days ago, and there are no words that can truly describe the pain and emptiness we feel. Our world has been turned upside down, and every day since has felt unreal.

She was the kindest and most generous soul — the type of person who gave without hesitation and loved without limits. She wasn’t just our mom… she was a loyal friend, a caring sister, and to so many she was lovingly known as “everyone’s Nana.” Her home, her arms, and her heart were always open to anyone in need.

If you knew our mom, you knew how she made people feel seen, heard, and loved. She had a way of turning strangers into family, always offering a meal, a hug, or a listening ear. She taught us the value of kindness, laughter, and putting others before yourself. Losing her has left an emptiness that words will never fully capture.

Her only wish was simple — to be cremated and placed with our grandparents at Mililani Memorial, with no formal service. We are doing our very best to honor that wish, but the financial reality of burial expenses has been overwhelming, especially as we are still trying to process this devastating loss.

This is not easy for us to share. Asking for help in this way is humbling and honestly, it feels embarrassing. But our love for our mom outweighs our pride, and we know we cannot do this alone. With heavy hearts, we are reaching out to our family, friends, and community for any support you can give to help us lay her to rest the way she wanted.

Proverbs 11:25
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Even if you cannot give financially, we would be so grateful if you could share this message, offer prayers, or simply keep us in your thoughts. Every gesture — no matter how small — helps lighten this unbearable weight we are carrying.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

We are deeply, deeply thankful for every message, every prayer, every act of love and kindness that has been shown to us during this heartbreaking time. Your support reminds us that we are not alone, and we are forever grateful.

She deserved the world, and all we want is to give her the farewell she deserves.
