Hi everyone,

As some of you may already be aware, my nephew Marlee had a terrible accident last weekend and snapped his leg. He broke the top of his femur completely in half after jumping into a foam pit.

Due to weather conditions, Marlee and my mum (Danielle) were flown to Adelaide by the Royal Flying Doctor Service about 24 hours later. Marlee is now in hospital and will be in a traction bed with a Thomas splint for the next 2–3 weeks while his bones are slowly aligned so they can heal properly.

After this, he will be placed in almost a full body cast and will need to use a wheelchair for up to 5 weeks. This will make everyday tasks extremely difficult. Mum has already been told that even moving Marlee from his wheelchair to a bed will be very challenging because of the weight of the cast, and she may need to source a lifting aid.

There are also many other challenges ahead. Marlee may not fit in Mum’s car once he is in the cast, so she may need to hire a larger vehicle to transport him. Their current home is also not suitable for his recovery, so they will be moving into a small unit in our shed to make things more manageable.

On top of all this, Mum was due to start a new job before this happened but will now be unable to work for at least three months while she cares for Marlee.

A few people have kindly reached out asking how they can help, so we have created this fundraiser to support them during this incredibly difficult time. Being unexpectedly stuck in Adelaide for 2–3 weeks comes with many expenses, and there will also be ongoing costs when they return home to ensure Marlee has everything he needs for his recovery.
