Two year later, 11 MAJOR BACK OPERATIONS & we are still going thru some very hard times. You can read all the updates on this page.
There are updates on this page from 2019/2020/2021 and 2022 when we first created it. The journey has been long and continues to change- Marlanea is my 10 year old daughter. She was born with a hemivertabrae and had severe congenital scoliosis. Marlanea was watched closely as she grew and her back just kept getting worse.. At her visit in 2019 we heard the doctors say “she’s going to need surgery” I was scared being a single mother. Marlee underwent a post spinal fusion, bone graft, and hemivertabrae resection on October 25, 2019 that resulted in a week hospital stay. (Fast forward a year we are preparing for another surgery) She now has two rods and 4 screws in her back. Throughout the process of preparing for Marlaneas surgery the doctors came across a few other things that may also require surgery down the line... a aberrant subclavian artery & bicuspid aortic valve(heart condition) and enlarged adenoids and lymph nodes that may also need to be addressed. Since this process has started on October 24, 2019 I have gone through some financial and emotional hardships. It’s now 2022 and the hospital bills and surgeries are continuing to flow like water ♀️ I have a small support system and they have done all they could do to help me make it through this surgery and recovery. (Which has been a whirlwind- she ended up getting a infection from a stich which caused two more 5 hour day trips to Shriners in Philly and now has fluid build up in her left lung. (Which now as of her last appt is severely compromised). I recently don’t work due to having to care for Marlanea since I am her only legal guardian... and being unable to go. I have bounced the idea of starting one of these pages in my head for awhile and have put it off for so long because of judgement, embarrassment, asking for help. But it’s now come down to some thin wires. Any little bit will help with bills, transportation, medication for Marlanea and other daily surprises she throws at me on a daily basis.
Prayers for Marlees bumpy recovery and future healing are always appreciated.
2022 will be our year & I know she will overcome it all. But, it’s definitely been one hell of a road
