Marla Chavez: Road to Recovery

If you’ve ever met Marla Chavez, you understand that she has never known a stranger. She strikes up conversations with people wherever she goes and is genuinely interested in the well-being of whoever she meets. Her light shines so bright that after knowing her, you become a better person, and find yourself inspired to see the best in humanity.

While driving on January 11, Marla had a hemorrhagic stroke and was immediately taken to the Ben Taub Trauma Unit in Houston, TX. Miraculously, because she was driving, she was within the window of time to have the operation that saved her life. Our gratitude for the medical team, and the attention they gave her for the day-long surgery, cannot be measured. While she is showing promising progress, we’re told the road to recovery is likely to be a long one.

We are reaching out for financial support in advance of medical bills resulting from her multi-week hospital stay. There will also likely be costs associated with her recovery, including physical therapy, speech therapy, and/or occupational therapy. While Marla continues to recover, she is unable to work and our family would greatly appreciate any contributions while we navigate these unanticipated expenses. We hope that she has an expedited recovery, but we’ll be prepared for the long route.

Marla has the healing love of so many, and be assured we share each card, message, and prayer with her when visiting. We know our mama would want to keep open communication and try to prevent anyone from worrying, so we will keep this page updated with her progress.
